OpenOffice 2.0 with extras, how cool is that? This version listed with some other languages, adds templates and clip art and several fonts all integrated into the application. The premium tag should not scare you off (especially if you are cheap like me) , like any other OpenOffice version�this one is free!!

Google has added the capability to download out of print books in pdf format. This is not a new idea, the Gutenberg Project has had this feature for sometime but with Google now on board I expect to see this taken to the next level. The picture you see will take you to Dante�s Inferno! Enjoy reading about all the great levels of hell, I hear the 9th is a real doozy!

If you really want your own alarm clock that will play any music you tell it to...here it its. I am thinking of teachers switching classes, this could play a short song or sound to let you know that it is time to wrap up. Works great with MP3 files.

Microsoft takes a big leap into the blogger world with this new application. There are other apps that do the same thing but this is a good WYSIWIG editor for your blogs. It will tie into WordPress and other popular blogs and let you create you stuff on your computer then push it to the site. I am excited to see what some serious geeks do with the API which they released at the same time�.

New blogger software from Google. It looks like Google Pages in the setup and also is now being tied to your Google account. I hope they let you bring in some of the cool widgets from Google pages!

Neat idea, lets you upload your pictures (2gb) and sync them with other computers or handhelds. Just in beta, looking at allowing users to upload all types of files too. Check this out!

Open Office is by far my favorite free office application. I have posted links to several online Office alternatives, but this is the current best alternative to purchasing licensing from Microsoft. The newer version also includes an Access alternative. Writer and Calc are two very close cousins to Word and Excel. Download them and try them out!

The latest update from Google (they are doing a bunch of stuff right now!) Earth is a great update to an already very popular program. Google Earth is what you see on almost every news program when they zoom into some remote part of the world. You can use this to find you city or even your house! Word is that 30% of the world can know locate there home with this program!

Thumbstacks, Online Presentation Tool

Thumbstacks is an online replacement for PowerPoint or any other presentation tools. It allows users to build online presentations and share them by sending them a link. Users who are hooked to PPT's flashy transitions and animations might balk at this red headed step child but for an online choice that works wherever you are....not too bad. I would like to see them add the ability to upload PPT files. Perhaps after Google acquires them...Who needs Micro$oft Office? With all the online tools available, one could save a lot of money by using these handy tools.

Google now has an online spreadsheet program. Some of the features include, collabrative editing in real time, the ability to upload any spreadsheet from Excel or files in csv(comma seperated values) . Download files in .xls (Excel) or the HTML to insert into the web. Google has already purchased Writely and now the quesiton is will they purchase Thumbstacks or develop their own online presentation tool..hmmmmmm

Google has asserted itself into the online photo war with the newest edition of Picasa. Google originally purchased Picasa and released it free to the public and now has added an online version. PC users will need to upgrade their existing Picasa software to the latest version and Mac users....you have iPhoto. Take heart, you too can use Picase Web but just through the web interface.
